The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Creative Art Therapist and lead Healing Arts Program coordinator for the Invisible Wounds Clinic (IWC). The primary responsibility of the position is to provide a full range of healing arts services for IWC patients to include assessments, interventions, evidence-based therapy and consultation to medical staff.

### Responsibilities
* -Provides leadership in art therapy and healing arts through preventive, alternative and therapeutic healthcare services to patients in the IWC.
* -Provides healing arts program coordination, and advises leadership on creative art therapy program elements pertinent to the PTS, TBI and pain Pathways of Care.
* -Provides an advanced level of highly specialized comprehensive professional art therapy care to at-risk patients undergoing new, experimental, and/or unusual treatment programs.
* -Provides advanced scientific methodologies in the design and execution of novel and innovative research in the creative arts therapy field.

### Qualifications
**Specialized Experience:**Applicants must possess a Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in therapeutic recreation, art therapy, drama therapy, dance therapy, or music therapy; **OR** a Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in a related field involving therapeutic emphasis or concentration that included at least 36 semester hours in therapeutic courses as described: a.18 semester hours of therapeutic recreation courses; and b.18 semester hours that include a combination of abnormal psychology, physiology, human anatomy and development, disabilities and general recreation. **ADDITIONALLY**, applicants must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 or equivalent in the Federal service which includes knowledge of a wide range of theories, concepts, principles, and techniques of art therapy to plan, coordinate, and execute a healing arts program and participate as a contributing member of an interdisciplinary treatment team for patients suffering from PTS, TBI, chronic pain, and associated conditions. Education must have been obtained from an accredited program recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. **Note: Applicants must submit a copy of official transcripts**.

**FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS:** Applicants must have served at least 52 weeks at the GS-11 or higher grade (or equivalent in an alternate pay system) within the Federal Civil Service to be considered for referral. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):**Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of an extensive range of professional art therapy theories, principles and practices to perform the clinical evaluation and the medical management of patients with psychiatric disorders, PTS, TBI and pain requiring outpatient and intensive outpatient treatment.
2. Knowledge of evidence-based treatment modalities for individual, family and group creative arts therapies for a full range of adult psychiatric conditions, TBI, PTS and pain as well as knowledge of personality development theories for evaluating behavior and reaction patterns of patients.
3. Knowledge of experimental, complementary and alternative therapeutic modalities for patients with psychiatric disorders, PTS, TBI and pain.
4. Knowledge of health delivery and support services in order to work as an integral member of patient care teams (e.g., IWC); work effectively with other health professionals, paraprofessionals, and support staff; consult with other specialists; and effectively deliver art therapy services.
5. Knowledge of The Joint Commission standards and HIPAA regulations and understanding of the military health care system.
6. Skill in oral and written communication, ability to work well with others in a team approach and to provide guidance and consultation services to medical professionals, community agencies and military commands.
7. Ability to use a computer for word processing, data management and military medical programs.
**PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE:**Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
**VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE:** Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
